B Date was my husband’s turn to plan and he came up with something completely original! He called it “Being the Best” date and a winner would be determined at the end of the date. And by winning, a plastic trophy would be proudly displayed in our home with their name on it. Winner would be determined by three B-themed events.
‘Being the Best’ would have to compete at basketball, boardgames and a baking competition.
Boardgames was our first competition to kick off the date. We played Blokus (yes, another B!) which is a strategy game that can be a 2 or 4 player game. If you haven’t played it before, think of a combination of Sorry and Chess. After 30 minutes of a fierce completion, I took the win by a single point.
Basketball was next. We played 1-on-1 together at our nearby outdoor basketball court. Although I’ve played basketball since 7 years old, Reed had the height factor on me. He beat me on the court and we were at a score of 1-1.
Next, baking! This was my savior! We decided to have a bake-off the following night and leave our friends to vote anonymously on which cookie was “the most beautiful.” Reed took the approach of using pre-made cookie dough to shape as a gingerbread man and then used edible spray paint to color him silver and decorate gel to make a face. I was so proud of my husband for getting in the kitchen with me. For my cookie creation, I whipped up a homemade sugar cookie recipe that I found on Pinterest and then frosted with pink-colored cream cheese frosting. Finally topped with heart-shaped sprinkles to make them cutsie and fun. The votes came in close, but my cookies won for the category of “most beautiful.” We gave Reed “most creative.”
Overall I took in the win at 2-1 which means trophy stands with my name on it! I have to give props to my husband for coming up with this original idea. I truly loved everything about it and had really great time with some friendly competition.
